Sven-Goran Eriksson: Former England & Man City manager dies aged 76 after battle with cancer

Eriksson, who managed England between 2001 and 2006, passed away on Monday morning. The Swede had <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/sven-goran-eriksson-ill-cancer-england-manager/blt9baa029493cd4bcd" target="_blank">revealed his terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis in January</a>, saying that he had "at best" a year to live.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In a statement, Eriksson's family said: "After a long illness, SGE died during the morning at home surrounded by family. The closest mourners are daughter Lina; son Johan with wife Amana and granddaughter Sky; father Sven; girlfriend Yanisette with son Alcides; brother Lars-Erik with wife Jumnong. The family asks for respect for their wish to mourn in private and not be contacted."

WHAT ERIKSSON'S FAMILY SAID

Eriksson was England's first non-British manager and led the Three Lions to the quarter-finals of three major tournaments during his five-year tenure, leaving the role after the 2006 World Cup.At club level he managed 12 different teams - most notably Man City and Lazio - and won 18 trophies across a stellar career. Eriksson was able to live his dream of managing Liverpool in March, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/jurgen-klopp-sven-goran-eriksson-cancer-england-liverpool-legends/blt0fef43dd1dca7c78" target="_blank">taking charge of a legends match against Ajax</a> and guiding the Reds to a 4-2 win.
