<p>While Tigres are still fighting for a spot in the Clausura 2025 final, their front office is already working behind the scenes to make a major splash ahead of the Apertura 2026. The club, currently managed by Guido Pizarro, advanced to the semifinals in dramatic fashion—overcoming Atlético de San Luis amid controversial refereeing -  and face Toluca in the first leg of their semifinal series tonight.</p><p>Off the field, however, Tigres are reportedly on the verge of landing a marquee signing: <a href="https://x.com/fabrizioromano/status/1922380046737580148?s=46&amp;t=EGOTNzKoU1yQ8Nk1JYHU5g" target="_self">Argentine international Ángel Correa.</a> The Atlético de Madrid midfielder, a 2022 World Cup champion with Argentina in Qatar, is set to join Liga MX in a move that could send shockwaves through Mexican football.</p><p>According to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has already been reached between Atlético and Tigres. The deal is expected to be finalized at a reported fee of $6.7 million. Correa, who has also won LaLiga (2020–21) and the UEFA Europa League (2018) with the Spanish side, has been on Tigres' radar since March. After weeks of negotiations, the move is now close to completion.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>At 29, Correa brings an impressive resume. With Argentina, he has won the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. At club level, his career began at San Lorenzo, where he lifted the Argentine Primera División (Torneo Inicial 2013) and the Copa Libertadores in 2014 before moving to Europe.</p><p>If confirmed, this would be one of the biggest signings in Liga MX in recent years - a major coup for Tigres as they look to remain title contenders both now and in the seasons ahead.</p>

<p>Tigres Sporting President Mauricio Culebro recently hinted that Correa was a top target, saying: “We’ve always said we explore several options for each position. He’s a great player—one any club would love to have—but there are others as well. We’re waiting for the right time, once the tournament ends, to make the final decision.”</p><p>Culebro also addressed the decision to appoint Guido Pizarro as head coach, who took over from Veljko Paunović while still an active player on the squad. “Little by little, the team is starting to grasp the idea, and this match was a clear example of why we brought in Guido,” he said during a press conference. “He embodies the Tigres profile—that never-give-up mentality. These kinds of matches are often won not just with football, especially when the game doesn’t go your way, either because of the opponent or the circumstances. In those moments, you have to dig deeper, and that’s exactly what the team did.”</p>
