USWNT coach Emma Hayes said Friday that forward Jaedyn Shaw and defender Tierna Davidson will both be game-time decisions ahead of the team's Olympic quarterfinal match against Japan on Saturday.Shaw suffered an injury ahead of the U.S.' first group stage match against Zambia, and was replaced by alternate Croix Bethune. Davidson, meanwhile, was removed at halftime of the USWNT's match against Germany, suffering a knee contusion.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Shaw hasn't been featured in this Olympic tournament, but Davidson's injury was one that Hayes was able to speak to at a press conference Friday. After colliding with Germany's Jule Brand in the group stage match, Davidson suffered swelling around the knee.“She’s recovering really really well,” Hayes said of Davidson. “It’s just... is there going to be enough time?”Time isn't on the USWNT's side, as they take the pitch against at 9 a.m. Saturday against Japan in the knockout round.

“There’s not a big turnaround. I’m going to leave it for as long as possible,” Hayes said via <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5676539/2024/08/02/uswnt-davidson-shaw-hayes-olympics/" target="_self">The Athletic.</a> “I’ve got another 24 hours, so the injury update is touch and go, but I’m gonna give it the maximum amount of time to see if either one of them are available.”

WHAT HAYES SAID

The match kicks off Saturday at the Parc Des Princes in Paris, France. The winner will advance to the semifinals of the tournament, where they will compete for a chance at the medal podium.
