<p>Wayne burst onto the Premier League scene very early in his life as he broke into the Everton first-team when he was still just 16 years of age. After impressing with the Toffees and starring at Euro 2004 with England, Manchester United came knocking and Wayne decided to make the move to Old Trafford. Coleen has now revealed that the former England forward and their family were targeted by vandals in Liverpool after the move came to light.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Speaking on the <a href="https://m.skybet.com/" target="_blank">Stick to Football podcast by SkyBet</a>, Coleen revealed: "Our house got spray painted everywhere and there were smashed windows in cars.</p><p>"We literally took ourselves and moved because Sir Alex Ferguson said that he wanted us out of Liverpool. But it was our families that got the backlash then and that wasn’t fair.</p><p>"Wayne never went into Liverpool for a while after that, to get food or go shopping because people would just shout stuff."</p>

WHAT COLEEN SAID

<p>Coleen added that Wayne was adamant that moving to Manchester United was the right move as he was determined to win trophies. The 2024 'I'm A Celeb' runner-up added: "I don’t think it was an issue moving to Manchester.</p><p>"For him, Everton is his club, and he loved it, still does, but Manchester United is a massive club. All he wanted to do was win trophies.</p><p>"He saw players in the past stay with their childhood clubs and not go on to win anything. For him, it was hard, but he stood his ground and wanted to leave.</p><p>"It was tough, but it was worth it for him because he went on to win and seize the lead goalscorer. We had some fantastic times there."</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The Manchester United legend retired in 2021 and moved into the managerial act, which has not been going well. Wayne was recently sacked by Championship side Plymouth Argyle, and the 39-year-old has not revealed whether he plans to leave coaching altogether.</p>
