Wrexham fall behind Birmingham in title race! Red Dragons held to draw by Huddersfield in frustrating League One encounter

<p>Huddersfield set themselves up in a 3-1-4-2 formation and were ready to soak the pressure at a noisy Racecourse Ground. It took 17 minutes for the hosts to carve out their first goal-scoring opportunity but Jacob Chapman pulled out a fine save to deny Ryan Barnett.</p><p>As the game wore on, Phil Parkinson's men continued to enjoy plenty of possession but failed to find that final pass which would slice open a well-drilled Huddersfield defence. And at the end of the first half, they had just one shot on target despite enjoying 55% of the ball.</p><p>Things hardly improved for Wrexham after the break. They lacked creativity in attack and, instead, it was the visitors who looked more threatening on the counter. The match was clamouring for fresh legs and ideas but surprisingly, Parkinson took 74 minutes to make his first change when summer signing Ollie Rathbone was brought on. The Red Dragons showed some urgency in the final minutes to pull ahead but Mullin's profligacy did not help their cause.</p>

<p>Wrexham dropped two points and <strong>Birmingham</strong> earned three of their own to open up a four-point gap at the summit with a game in hand. The Blues hosted Bolton at St Andrews' and put in a professional performance to emerge triumphant with a 2-0 win. Too early to say, but the alarm bells will be ringing inside Wrexham's dressing room.</p>

THE WINNER

<p><strong>Ollie Palmer </strong>and <strong>Paul Mullin </strong>looked toothless in attack. The duo struggled to get involved and hardly tested Chapman between the sticks. Palmer particularly was off the boil and Parkinson was forced to hook him off in the 82nd minute, for record signing Mo Faal.</p>

THE BIG LOSERS

<p>After playing out a stalemate at home, Wrexham will travel to Charlton next on Saturday in another League One fixture. </p>
