Okonkwo spent last season on loan with Phil Parkinson's Wrexham from Arsenal and impressed at the Red Dragons as they won promotion to League One. As such, Wrexham are attempting to sign the 22-year-old as they look forward to life in the third tier of English football.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking to <a href="https://talksport.com/football/1913435/wrexham-rob-mcelhenney-arthur-okonkwo-transfer-arsenal/" target="_blank">talkSPORT</a>, the 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' star said: "There’s a very good chance. We’re talking to Arthur actively right now, we know he wants to come back to Wrexham and we definitely want him. It’s just about working out the right deal that works for everybody."

WHAT MCELHENNEY SAID

The young goalkeeper replaced Ben Foster after a poor start to the season. He featured in 40 games across all competitions, conceding just 35 goals and keeping 16 clean sheets in the league. He was named League Two goalkeeper of the season as a result of his efforts.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 22-year-old has <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/wrexham-ryan-reynolds-rob-mcelhenney-transfer-boost-arsenal-confirm-arthur-okonkwo-exit-free-agent/blt6956d28aa9c2b6e4" target="_blank">already been released by Arsenal</a> and the Red Dragons will be hoping to sort out his contract talks as soon as possible as they look to bring in the stopper on a permanent basic. Okonkowo readily admitted he "loved" his team with the Welsh club.
