WHAT HAPPENED?

The club <a href="https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/news/2023/december/update--kop-temporary-stand/" target="_blank">posted on their website</a>: "Wrexham AFC can confirm good progress is being made with the license application for the Temporary Stand and opening it on Saturday remains the realistic target, although there are still some hurdles to clear."If we are able to finalise everything, tickets for the game will be made available from Friday morning to Members Only. The stand will be used to 80% of capacity for the first game. Further updates will be issued via our official club channels in due course."

WHAT WREXHAM SAID

The redevelopment of the Kop was a key ownership pledge when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took charge of the club in 2020. Work on an impressive new 5,500 capacity stand, incorporating hospitality facilities, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/wrexham-kop-stand-racecourse-ground-ryan-reynolds-rob-mcelhenney/blt94d595c40b3ac3ba" target="_blank">was due to begin this summer</a> but the project has been delayed leading to the decision to erect a temporary structure.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham will be working frantically behind the scenes to obtain the license that would allow them to once again become a four-sided ground. A festive derby against Newport would be the perfect time to boost the capacity and hear some noise from the famous Kop end for the first time since 2008.
