- Chelsea blew two-goal lead
- Palmer scored penalty to open scoring
- Threw bottle after Trossard equaliser
WHAT HAPPENED? Chelsea let a two-goal lead slip in their London derby clash with Arsenal at the weekend, with Leandro Trossard grabbing a dramatic equaliser for the visitors six minutes from time. Palmer, who opened the scoring from the penalty spot, was grabbing a drink at the time of Trossard's goal and accidently struck Pochettino with a bottle when throwing it away.
WHAT THEY SAID: The 21-year-old immediately apologised to his manager, but has joked about potentially losing his place in the team when telling Chelsea's official website about the incident. "When they scored their second goal I was getting a drink," said Palmer. "I went to throw the bottle away, as you do, but didn’t look. I just saw it loop dead slow and hit the gaffer. I said sorry to him and apologised properly after the game. Hopefully he won’t drop me for that!"
He added on his relationship with Pochettino: "We get on well. I try to show him every day in training what I can do. Work hard and just try to repay him because he puts a lot of faith in us."
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Palmer has been an instant hit at Stamford Bridge since his £42.5 million ($52m) switch from Manchester City in the summer, with two goals and and one assist recorded across his first six Premier League outings for Chelsea. The England U21 international only played a bit-part role at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola, but has already established himself as a regular for the Blues and is eager to make an even greater contribution as the season progresses. "I’m loving it here at Chelsea. Every day is good, even off the pitch with the lads," Palmer stated. "There’s a good vibe here and everything’s good, so I’m loving it. I came to Chelsea to try to make an impact. I’m happy I’ve done it straight away. Credit to the lads, the lads are all good, helped me settle in and stuff, but I’ve just got to try to improve every day and give more and more."
