Giroud nets first goal of Euro 2016

Olivier Giroud has scored the first goal of Euro 2016 after heading France into the lead against Romania at Stade de France on Friday.

The Arsenal man has had a rough build-up to the tournament, with Les Bleus' fans booing him on several occasions, and he was jeered again in the opening clash.

But he showed his class in front of goal once again to put his team 1-0 up against Anghel Iordanescu's men.

Giroud was perfectly placed to nod in after Dimitri Payet placed a teasing cross into the Romania area for his eighth goal in six international starts.

Ciprian Tatarusanu, however, will feel he could have done better after coming out poorly to meet the ball.

The lead was short lived, however, as Romania pulled level through Bogdan Stancu, who converted a penalty after Patrice Evra tripped Nicolae Stanciu in the area.
