I-League: DSK Shivajians’ Dave Rogers – Performance against Churchill Brothers was the worst

DSK Shivajians lost their fifth I-League game this season as they were trounced 3-0 by Churchill Brothers on Sunday evening at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco.

The Punekars were up against Derrick Pereira, who was their coach last season when they finished at the bottom of the table.

“I knew Derrick would be fired up. For our boys, that's probably the worst performance. No excuses. The only great spot was our 17-year-old academy player (Pranjal Bhumij) who was a bit unlucky to score. The second half performance was not acceptable.

“Credit to Churchill who took the chances and scored the goals in the second half,” said coach Dave Rogers.

The former Chester City centre-back pointed that his team are crippled with several injuries and also the fact that they were playing their fourth straight fixture on the road.

“I have five injuries - regular first team players including Kim Song-Yong and two regular India internationals. But it's not all gloomy when we finish with six U-22 players on the pitch. For me that's the bright spot.

“It’s another away game (next), our fifth away game in three weeks. We've travelled the length of India in the last couple of weeks,” he said.

The English coach hopes that his team can pick up a few victories on the bounce which would propel them into the top half of the I-League table.

“Any team puts a good run of form together, in one week you can be at the bottom and the next week you could be on top,” he concluded.
