Kane 'making progress' as injured Spurs striker posts positive video of rehab

Tottenham talisman Harry Kane has delivered a positive update on his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.

Kane was forced off the pitch during Spurs' 1-0 defeat against Southampton on New Year's Day, after rupturing a tendon in his left leg.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery on the issue at the start of the month, with England now sweating on his availability ahead of this summer's European Championships.

He has been ruled out of action until April, which has left Tottenham short on attacking options heading into a crucial stage of the season, with a top-four finish and success in the Champions League and FA Cup still to play for.

However, Kane has posted a video on social media which shows him stretching and exercising in the gym, as he steps up his rehabilitation programme.

The Three Lions captain has netted 17 goals in 25 appearances for Spurs this season, and remains the only natural centre-forward within Jose Mourinho's ranks aside from 17-year-old prospect Troy Parrott.

Mourinho has been tipped to sign an extra striker before the January transfer window closes, with a number of top players being linked with a move to north London.

Goal understands that Tottenham have submitted an offer to Milan for Krzysztof Piatek, though he is set to complete a permanent move to Hertha Berlin despite being keen on a switch to north London.

Chelsea frontman Olivier Giroud has also been linked with the Lilywhites, while club legend Graham Roberts is hoping to see Gareth Bale return to his old hunting ground from Real Madrid.

Mourinho has already brought in Gedson Fernandes from Benfica on an 18-month loan deal, along with Dutch winger Steven Berwijn, who has outlined his ambition to win the Champions League with Tottenham.

The former has featured in two Premier League matches for Spurs already, with the latter in line to make his full debut against Manchester City on Sunday.

Tottenham will start preparing for an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Southampton three days later, before taking some time off over the winter break.
