The Scotland manager doesn't seem too upset, despite his side facing Germany in the opening game of the tournament. They will also play Hungary and Switzerland.He told reporters: “It was always going to be exciting. [On Hungary and Switzerland] Two good teams it’s a good group, evenly balanced. Play-offs still to come

Gareth Southgate has spoken to the BBC. He said: "I've stood here after quite a few draws and you always feel the same way. You can look at it on paper but the games aren't played on paper. Obviously one or two teams, you're glad to avoid, certainly in pot three and pot four, but all the teams that we play are more than capable."Pleased to avoid Scotland and Wales? "They're brilliant occasions, especially for the fans, and they're great games to play in so I was really relaxed about all of it. I guess the advantage we've got is having been in a few tournaments, you know the format, you know the next objective is to get out of the group and then you try to build from there."On playing Denmark and whether he was concerned about drawing Netherlands and Italy: "You can't tell but you look at Serbia, with a centre-forward like Mitrovic, and you have to be very careful about assuming things when you see these draws."Playing Slovenia and Serbia, are they less familiar? "Slovenia was one of the first games I had as England manager and I'll always remember that Joe Hart made a save that day, that if he doesn't make it I might not be still England manager. You do think back to those moments."Where will England base themselves? "We're now able to work all of that out. That's the beauty of the draw. We now have clear opportunities to study the opposition, we can look at the timing of arriving in Germany because we'll have the date of the first game, and we can start to nail down where we stay. It gives you a lot more clarity but I don't have it ready to give you now!"Final thoughts on group: "We're hugely excited to be part of the tournament. We know the expectation at home, we've developed a lot as a team in the last few years, we're getting used to these big games. We're ready for that expectation and we hope we can give our supporters some more brilliant nights as we have in the last few tournaments."

We might be looking too far ahead here but we know that England could face a relatively straightforward knockout game, provided they win Group C. If they do finish top, they will play one of the third-placed teams in Group D, E and F. D does feature both the Netherlands and France, however.

Who could England play in Round of 16?

It has to be Group B. Defending champions Italy have to face both Spain and Croatia, as well as surprise qualifiers Albania. It's a mouthwatering group, and one has to think that there will be some thrills!

The important dates!

Both home nations have qualified for the tournament. From a ranking perspective, the easiest draws each team could receive are as follows: England: Albania, Slovenia, a play-off winner that isn't Wales or Ukraine. Scotland: Germany, Albania, a play-off winner that isn't Wales or Ukraine. It is possible that if Wales qualify through the play-offs, they could be drawn into a group with England and Scotland.

What are England and Scotland's dream draws? 

Once the groups are drawn, the Euro 2024 group stage will work as follows: The top two teams in every group will qualify for the Round of 16. In addition to that, four of the best third-placed teams will also qualify, opening another avenue for progression.
