Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho remained silent after being asked whether Rudy Gestede attempted to bite Eric Bailly during Sunday's Premier League clash.
The Ivory Coast international clashed with the Middlesbrough striker in the second half of the meeting at the Riverside Stadium, with the two exchanging shoves before Gestede puts his face to Bailly's neck area.
Fellaini & Lingard silence haters
While former Aston Villa forward Gestede clearly makes no contact on Bailly with his mouth, United fans on social media have still asked the question and whether that was what he was initially intending.
Michael Owen also discussed the incident on BT Sport and suggested that it had looked as though Gestede was considering biting his opponent a la Luis Suarez on Giorgio Chiellini back in 2014.
Getty ImagesWhen asked about what had happened, and if the 28-year-old had attempted to bite Bailly, Mourinho remained silent and decided not to answer the question with his press conference having been brought to a conclusion.
Boro caretaker boss Steve Agnew revealed after the game that he "didn't see anything" but that "obviously I'm picking up that something went on but it's no concern to me".
United were leading Middlesbrough 2-1 at the time, with Gestede having pulled a goal back following efforts from Marouane Fellaini and Jesse Lingard.
Then came the incident between Gestede and Bailly that saw both sets of players exchange shoves, with the referee eventually deciding to talk to the United defender and Boro centre-back Ben Gibson.
Man Utd record landmark Premier League win
The aftermath of the clash appeared to spill over into the tunnel after full-time too, with both sets of players having to be kept apart by security staff.
United went on to win the game 3-1, after a slip by Victor Valdes allowed Antonio Valencia to walk the ball into the net, moving them up to fifth in the table.
