Ted Lasso is officially making a return for a fourth season on Apple TV+.
In a recent announcement, Apple confirmed that work has begun on the next chapter of its highly successful original series. Jason Sudeikis, who brought the beloved American football coach-turned-soccer manager to life, is set to reprise his award-winning role once again.
Ted Lasso has captured the hearts of viewers and critics alike, with Jason Sudeikis leading the Apple TV+ series as the upbeat, genuine Coach Lasso, tasked with bringing fictional English football club AFC Richmond to glory.
The show has been celebrated not just for its feel-good humor but also for tackling mental health issues with sensitivity. When it first aired, Ted Lasso quickly swept the 2021 Emmy Awards, earning Sudeikis Best Actor, while Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein took home Best Supporting Actress and Actor, and the series itself won Best Comedy.
After an exceptional three-season journey, Ted Lasso has cemented itself as a cultural sensation, garnering widespread praise and clinching 13 Emmy Awards. The Apple TV+ hit wrapped up its third season with what many viewed as a conclusive finale: Coach Ted Lasso returning to the United States after three years of managing AFC Richmond.
While season three provided what seemed like a fitting conclusion to Ted's story, fresh developments indicate the journey isn't over yet. As one of Apple TV+'s most acclaimed and widely adored shows, it's no surprise that fans are eager for more of its signature humor, heart, and uplifting storytelling.
Although the third season felt like a natural ending, Apple TV+ has confirmed that the story will continue, with season four now officially in the works.
When will Ted Lasso return, and which stars will be returning for the latest edition? GOAL takes a look.
Ted Lasso season 4 cast members
Jason Sudeikis is officially set to return for the fourth season, which comes as no surprise given his central role. However, the rest of the cast remains uncertain. Reports from last August indicated that Apple had secured contract options for Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins), though their involvement hasn't been formally announced. With limited details on the upcoming season's storyline, it will be intriguing to see how their characters might fit into the narrative.
While casting remains in flux, the show's core creative team is largely intact. Sudeikis will continue as an executive producer alongside Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Additionally, writer and producer Jack Burditt—known for his work on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Nobody Wants This—joins as an executive producer. Co-creator Bill Lawrence is also returning, though his focus has recently shifted to his other series, Shrinking.

Juno Temple, who portrayed Keeley in the first three seasons, is currently in talks to return, hinting at another familiar face in the mix. Fueling speculation with his social media activity, Nick Mohammed has added to the buzz surrounding Ted Lasso's return by hinting some of the storylines.
He told the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X: "I know what has come out in the press. But I think it's fine to say that I did know that before, so I know that it's about Ted coming back and coaching the women's football team."
He went on to say, when asked if Lasso would be heading back to familiar surroundings, but in a slightly different role: "At Richmond. That's definitely come out."
Meanwhile, casting is underway for a young actor to take on the role of Ted Lasso's son, Henry. A devoted soccer fan throughout the series, the now 12-year-old has developed into a promising player himself. Kola Bokinni is also set to go amid talk of Ted Lasso returning for Season 4, with the AFC Richmond captain saying "Whatever happens, I’ll be there."
As for other familiar faces, it's still unclear who else will be invited back for season four. Nonetheless, the cast has often expressed enthusiasm to return if the chance arises, and many are likely to make guest appearances, though no official announcements have been made yet.

Unfortunately, one fan favourite character won't be present in Season 4. Matthew Belloni of Puck News reported that Phil Dunster, who portrays the fan-favorite Jamie Tartt of AFC Richmond, won't be returning to the series due to scheduling conflicts. This absence is likely due to scheduling conflicts, as he is actively involved in two other shows, The Devil's Hour on Prime Video and Surface on Apple TV+.

Ted Lasso Season 4 release date, trailer
Since Ted Lasso Season 4 has only recently been announced, there's no confirmed release date or trailer available just yet. However, once one is released, we'll be sure to update this section.
If everything falls into place, the filming is expected to take roughly a year to finish, so don't expect it to be before the turn of the year.
What Could Ted Lasso Season 4 Explore?
For Ted Lasso to maintain its signature charm and spirit, it's clear that Ted Lasso himself needs to be part of the equation. One of the biggest challenges for a potential fourth season would be finding a way to bring Jason Sudeikis' beloved AFC Richmond boss back to England, pulling him away from his family in the U.S. to rejoin the club on its upward trajectory.
There’s always the possibility that the Apple TV+ sports comedy could move forward without Ted steering the ship, with Sudeikis taking on more of a behind-the-scenes role. However, given that the ever-optimistic Kansan is the heart and soul of the series, it's difficult to picture the show without him making at least some kind of appearance.
As Season 3 wrapped up, AFC Richmond seemed poised to launch a women's team after Keeley Jones pitched the idea to an enthusiastic Rebecca Welton. This could open the door for Ted to take charge of the squad, setting the stage for fresh comedic moments as he navigates the unique challenges of coaching a completely different team. Indeed, Sudeikis effectively confirmed this would be the direction of Season 4, revealing the news on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce.
Meanwhile, the AFC Richmond men's side remains in the capable hands of Roy Kent, who has stepped into the managerial role alongside Coach Beard and Nathan “Nate” Shelly. With the club having narrowly missed out on Premier League glory last season, chasing that elusive title could still be front and center in a potential fourth chapter.
