It's been a difficult year for the U.S. women's national team. It went to the 2023 Women's World Cup aiming to become the first side to ever win the title three times in a row but instead ending up going home in the last 16, suffering the earliest exit in the programme's history.
Head coach Vlatko Andonovski left his role shortly afterwards, with U.S. Soccer now hoping the team can recover in the final months of the year and make positive steps as it prepares for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

With plenty of games lined up in the coming months, the chance is there for it to do so, with Twila Kilgore taking interim charge for those fixtures before the federation welcomes Chelsea boss Emma Hayes from across the Atlantic to lead the USWNT into a new era.
What games has the USWNT played in 2023?
The USWNT kicked off the year in New Zealand in January, facing the co-hosts of the 2023 Women's World Cup in a doubleheader. It won both games comprehensively, the first a 4-0 result and the second finishing 5-0, allowing the team to start 2023 with a bang. In February, the USWNT then hosted the sixth edition of its annual SheBelieves Cup, beating all of Canada, Japan and Brazil on its way to the trophy.
That winning run continued with back-to-back friendly victories over the Republic of Ireland at the start of April and a win over Wales in the U.S.'s final World Cup preparation match.
However, the tournament in Australia and New Zealand did not go to plan at all, with the reigning champion eliminated in the last 16 after losing a penalty shootout to Sweden. It is the USWNT's earliest exit from the competition ever and the first time it has not made the semi-finals.
The U.S. did end the year strongly, though, winning five of their six matches across the final three international breaks of 2023, its only blip a goalless draw with Colombia. With Hayes announced as its new head coach in this spell, things are looking up going into 2024.
GettyWhat fixtures does the USWNT have in 2024?
The first big thing on the USWNT's schedule for 2024 will be the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup, which will kick off in the U.S. on February 20. The draw for the tournament, to determine the which nations will be placed in its three groups, will take place on December 11.
The U.S. has long held January camps and could well do so before that tournament again, though it will need to negotiate with clubs abroad for the release of its players - such as Lindsey Horan at Lyon - as that will not be an official FIFA window.
However, it is the Olympics that is the main tournament on the USWNT's agenda for the New Year, with the women's football tournament in France to kick off on July 25. There is not yet a date for the draw for the Olympics, to determine the group stages, as the qualification process is still ongoing on several continents.
There will be further international breaks in April, one that runs across the end of May and start of June, another just before the Olympics and then two more before the year is out. U.S. Soccer is yet to announce any fixtures for 2024.
