David Beckham's '02 World Cup boots

VIDEO: From Predators to Adizero's - The Evolution of FIFA World Cup Boots

The football boots worn by World Cup stars can reach iconic status.

Brazil captain Carlos Alberto Torres's simple black and white Adidas boots were the first that people really noticed, as the Selecao turned on the style at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.

But his understated pair were left in the shadow of the glistening, golden boots worn by Germany's Gerd Muller during the tournament four years later.

A few years later, the height of evolution in boots arrived via the Adidas Predator.

The Predator Cup boots, sported most notably by Thomas Hassler at USA '94, were followed by the Accelerators, worn by the key to France's victory on home soil in '98, Zinedine Zidane.

The Predator Mania's became arguably the most famous boots of all time when David Beckham and Co. gallivanted around in them during Japan/South Korea '02.

Spain legend Xavi wore Predator X boots as he helped La Roja pass their way to glory in South Africa in '10, while Colombia's James Rodriguez earned the Golden Boot in Brazil '14, scoring six times in his Adidas F50 Adizero's.

Will we see another pair of legendary boots emerge in Russia?
